The Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion (SPICE), inorganic aragonite precipitation and seawater chemistry: Insights from the Middle ? Late Cambrian Port au Port Group, Newfoundland

چکیده

The Late Cambrian Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion marks a time of significant change in ocean chemistry and trilobite faunas. On the lead up to carbon isotope excursion at itself, there is global evidence from Laurentia Gondwana cementation by primary aragonite shallow subtidal environments accompanied deposition aragonitic ooids. However, this occurred widely considered have been characterised ‘calcite seas’ when inorganic phases (marine cements ooids) are normally presumed calcitic. This study has investigated chemostratigraphy Middle–Late Port au Group, Newfoundland, including early marine cements. Here, contain increasing concentrations strontium towards peak (up 5500 ppm excursion) before dropping off post-peak excursion, consistent with original having aragonitic. trend relict oomouldic porosity, again suggesting an precursor. Primary mineralogy largely controlled Mg/Ca ratio sea water but estimates oceans variable (0.8–2). At level, other factors such as temperature pCO2 shown affect warm waters high levels CO2 favouring aragonite. It possible that anoxia caused created conditions favourable for precipitation same major faunal turnover.

Decoupling biogeochemical records, extinction, and environmental change during the Cambrian SPICE event

Several positive carbon isotope excursions in Lower Paleozoic rocks, including the prominent Upper Cambrian Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion (SPICE), are thought to reflect intermittent perturbations in the hydrosphere-biosphere system. Models explaining these secular changes are abundant, but the synchronicity and regional variation of the isotope signals are not well understood. Ex...

Middle-Late Cambrian acritarchs from the Zardkuh area in the High Zagros Mountains, southern Iran: Stratigraphic and paleogeographic implications

The excellent preservation of the acritarchs, their great abundance, diversity and good stratigraphic control permit establishment of a detailed Middle and Late Cambrian acritarch biozonation. A total of 56 palynomorph species form the basis of 10 local acritarch assemblage zones. Assemblage zones I-II occur in the lower and middle parts of the Member C of the Mila Formation and suggest Early-m...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
